SILO biggest winner at European Design Awards 2017

At 2017 award ceremony of the European Design Awards in Porto, on 27 May, SILO came out as the biggest winner this year. The agency received two gold awards this year for it’s work for Zaans Medical Center, a Gold Award for Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ and two bronze awards for Life Sciences Incubator and New Delftware.

Furthermore, SILO was rewarded European Design Agency of the Year. In 2012 SILO was also agency of the year. It is the first time in the history of the awards that this honour befalls to the same agency twice. René Toneman of SILO: “We are pleased to be rewarded Agency of the Year for the second time. It is a great boost for our team which has worked hard this year. I would also like to thank our clients for a great collaboration that has made this possible. ”

Two gold awards for Healing Environment in Zaans Medical Center

In the new hospital, much attention has been paid to providing positive distraction and optimal user experience for patients and visitors: a healing environment. SILO created this environment in collaboration with Mecanoo Architecten from a human-centered approach; a strategy in which users are central. ‘Being sick brings an increased amount of stress and emotion, which is not conducive to recovery. Our goal was to improve the relationship between the building and its users. This has resulted in poetic illustrations that offer positive deduction, “said Rene Toneman of SILO.

Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ is an internationally leading stage in Amsterdam, which excels in contemporary music and the related genres classical, jazz, electronic pop music and world music. Since 2008, SILO has been working together with Muziekgebouw to inspire and surprise such a wide audience of music. SILO won a golden European Design Award this year in the category Printed Identity Applications.

Bronze award for Life Sciences Incubator and New Delftware

The Life Sciences Incubator (LSI) of Utrecht University offers housing to startups in the field of bioscience. The company contains both laboratories and office space. Like the ZMC, this project was undertaken by SILO in collaboration with Mecanoo Architecten. SILO developed spatial design with a focus on privacy for users. SILO received this Bronze European Design Award in the Signs & Displays category.

Punt Uit – New Delftware

Punt Uit is an exceptional bed and breakfast in the old city center of Delft. The quirky architecture combined with the hospitality of its owners make the stay a memorable event.
We developed the idea for a completely hand-painted brand identity, matching the creative history of Delft. The inspiration for the concept of the brand identity derives from the variety of artwork on the Delft Blue tiles. Logo, typography, signs, labels, illustrations, everything is hand painted. This is the new Delftware!
