The bicycle parking currently under construction next to The Hague central station will be open to the public on Saturday June 15, 2019, during Dag van de Bouw (Construction Day). Visitors will get an exclusive preview of the Escherian cityscape that Silo designed for the location.
Bicycle use in The Hague is growing, as is the need for sufficient parking facilities. Underneath the Koningin Julianaplein, a parking garage is currently being constructed for approximately 8,500 bicycles. Once finished, it will be one of the largest of its kind in the Netherlands. The departure from and arrival at the comfortable and innovative parking facility will be a welcoming entrance to The Hague.
In collaboration with Studio Marsman, Silo developed a visual intervention for the back-lit walls that enclose the underground space. The approximately 1,040 sqm ‘cityscape’ comprises facade elements of famous buildings in The Hague. You can experience the iconic architecture of Richard Meier, Bernard Tschumi, Cesar Pelli, KPF, and many others in a singular space.
Guided tours of the bicycle parking garage are organized by construction company Mobilis.
