HYPO Kunstsupermarkt

Bringing people closer to art

Art galleries are sometimes perceived as being difficult, and uninviting to the general public. This is a shame because art has the potential to be enjoyed by a broad audience. HYPO is an art supermarket which aims to remove the barrier between the art gallery and its potential public.

Ambition

HYPO is an art supermarket which aims to remove the barrier between the art gallery and its potential public. The HYPO ‘supermarket’ is a multifunctional space which includes an affordable gallery for art and design, a café, and space for workshops and presentations.

Action

SILO advised to deviate from a regular visual language surrounding galleries. The starting point of the design is a visual language which playfully combines the contrasting worlds of art with that of the supermarket. Silo created a series of slogans inspired by advertising punchlines that promote and address art through wordplay. The resulting style is playful, direct, and easily applied to a variety of formats.

Impact

With a limited budget HYPO managed to achieve maximum visibility and to make a connection with local art and design enthusiasts, thanks to a clear and visual identity.
